One of the highlights of the Old Town is the Musegg Wall, a well-preserved medieval city wall that dates back to the 14th century. The wall, complete with watchtowers and gates, offers a unique glimpse into Lucerne’s past as a fortified city. Visitors can walk along parts of the wall and climb some of the towers for breathtaking panoramic views of Lucerne, the surrounding mountains, and the sparkling Lake Lucerne. The best time to visit Lucerne is between mid-June and mid-September, when the weather is warm, and many festivals take place, including the Swiss Food Festival, where you can indulge in delicious Swiss delicacies. While this is the peak tourist season, it’s also when the city comes alive with events and activities. If you prefer fewer crowds and lower hotel rates, you can visit during the winter months, but keep in mind that some attractions may be closed due to the weather.

We did not plan to fall in love with Lucerne, so our visit was only a day trip. This, for sure, would be a city that deserves at least two nights. There are a ton of excellent accommodations to choose from, from budget to luxury. Use the links below to research your options and look for activities to book in the area.
